CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) - A lawyer for some of the victims of a sex abuse case wants The Citadel to provide all documents related to an investigation of the school's handling of the allegations against a former school camp counselor.
Attorney Mullins McLeod says he wants information and the truth of how the school handled complaints in 2007 involving Louis ReVille, The Post and Courier of Charleston reported.
McLeod represents three victims who have sued the school and president John Rosa in federal court. The victims contend The Citadel's failure to properly investigate the complaint allowed ReVille to continue molesting people.
In 2007, a teen had accused ReVille of watching porn and performing sex acts with young boys at The Citadel's summer camp in 2002. The school did not notify police after an internal investigation of the complaint.
ReVille pleaded guilty last June to molesting 23 boys in Berkeley, Charleston and Dorchester counties.
Citadel attorney Dawes Cooke says the documents McLeod is seeking are part of an ongoing investigation.
The documents that McLeod wants involve correspondence between Citadel board members and an attorney they have hired to investigate how they handled the 2007 complaint. Cooke said releasing the information would violate the attorney-client privilege.
He said the results will be provided to McLeod and the public once the investigation is complete.
