ALLENTOWN, Pa. (AP) - A young man who says he was sexually abused at a Boy Scout camp in Pennsylvania is suing the national Scouting organization and its local affiliate.
The plaintiff, now 18, says he was sexually assaulted by Gregory Ritter, a 44-year-old first-aid supervisor at Camp Trexler in the Poconos. The abuse allegedly occurred in the fall of 2008, when the plaintiff was 14.
Ritter was charged criminally in the case. He killed himself in January 2010 on the day his trial was supposed to start.
The Boy Scouts of America and a local chapter, the Allentown-based Minsi Trails Council, are named as defendants in the lawsuit filed Friday in Lehigh County Court.
The Scouts aren't commenting on the lawsuit but released a statement Friday saying the organization extends its sympathies to abuse victims.
