On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I am writing to express condolences to the family, colleagues and friends of longtime Atlanta lawyer John A. Helms on his recent passing.
Mr. Helms' exemplary career in the practice of law spanned more than four decades, including time as a partner at the firm then known as Powell Goldstein Frazer & Murphy, as general counsel for the Life Insurance Company of Georgia, as executive vice president of the Travelers Group and in private general practice. Professionally and personally, he directed his energies toward the fight for equal justice and helping the less fortunate. He also rendered a great service to the legal profession as founder of the Corporate Counsel Section of the State Bar of Georgia.
All Georgia lawyers can be inspired by John Helms' dedication and career-long efforts to promote the cause of justice, uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of all citizens. He will be missed by all who knew him.
