STONE MOUNTAIN, Ga. (AP) - Police in the Atlanta suburb of Stone Mountain will not be able to use their radar guns for a year after state officials said the department failed to recertify the technology, a step that's required annually.

WSB-TV reports that the problem calls into question the status of 384 tickets issued with radar guns that were not properly certified.

The state began investigating the Stone Mountain Police Department radar guns after a lawsuit filed in August.

Georgia Department of Public Safety spokesman Gordy Wright said that certification of the guns is a serious matter. He said the status of the tickets issued when the guns weren't certified is a matter for the police department and the courts.

Stone Mountain officials declined to comment to WSB.
