ATLANTA (AP) - Authorities say a former Gwinnett County commissioner who pleaded guilty to accepting a bribe from an undercover FBI agent will spend Christmas locked up in a federal prison.
Court records show that that Shirley Lasseter is scheduled to begin her 33-month sentence on Dec. 12. The Gwinnett Daily Post reports that she will begin the prison term in a federal lockup in Marianna, Fla.
Lasseter has said that shortly after she took office in 2009, a developer offered her $100,000 for a vote on a waste transfer station he wanted to build.
She later resigned her office and pleaded guilty to accepting $36,500 from an undercover FBI agent posing as a businessman who wanted her vote on a real estate development.
