DECATUR, Ga. (AP) - A DeKalb County judge has dismissed a juror during the sentencing phase of a trial for a man convicted in the killing of two police officers.
WGCL-TV reports Judge Dan Coursey sent the juror home Monday morning after finding out the juror had spoken to District Attorney Robert James. The juror spoke to the district attorney before the punishment phase began for 31-year-old William Woodard Monday morning.
James delivered closing arguments before the jury found Woodard guilty Friday in the slayings of DeKalb County police officers Ricky Bryant and Eric Barker. He faces the death penalty.
The state is expected to wrap up its case for the death penalty Tuesday with statements from the officers' families.
