ATLANTA (AP) - A Georgia man accused of strangling his daughter because she planned to divorce her husband from an arranged marriage is appealing his convictions and life prison sentence.
A lawyer for Chaudry Rashid argued before the Georgia Supreme Court Monday that a lower court committed several errors, including allowing jurors to see a videotaped conversation between Rashid and his family in which he says he killed his 25-year-old daughter after she disgraced the family. Rashid's lawyers say their client believed he was having a private conversation and didn't realize a video camera was running.
A prosecutor argued Rashid should have had no expectation of privacy in a police interrogation room. The state also argues other evidence proves beyond a reasonable doubt Rashid killed his daughter, and the video merely confirms it.
