ALBANY, Ga. (AP) - A jury has found a Dougherty County board member not guilty on felony school lunch fraud charges.
WALB-TV reports that Velvet Riggins was resolved of the charges on Friday after the jury took about an hour to deliberate before handing out a not guilty verdict.
Riggins was arrested in December and charged with two misdemeanors and a felony - two counts of theft by taking and providing false information to obtain free school meals for child.
On Thursday, Judge Stephen Gross threw out count one - public fraud, which is a felony - at the request of the defense.
Gov. Nathan Deal signed an executive order in July to remove Riggins from her office, pending the outcome of the trial.
