On behalf of the State Bar of Georgia, I wish to express sincere sympathy to the family, colleagues and many friends of Henry Troutman Jr. on his recent passing.
In addition to his more than 30 years in the practice of law, Mr. Troutman's work as a certified addiction counselor was of invaluable service to the legal profession in our state. He recognized that lawyers were no more immune to problems with alcohol and drug dependency than anyone else in society.
As founder of the State Bar's Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP), he personally served as an intervention counselor to the program and helped many lawyers through the years deal with chemical addiction and mental health issues. In 1998, the State Bar appropriately recognized his contributions by presenting Mr. Troutman with the Lifetime Achievement Award for community service.
All Georgia lawyers can find inspiration in the extraordinary life of Henry Troutman Jr. Through the ongoing work of the LAP, his legacy of service to the legal profession will live on for generations to come.
Bryan M. Cavan
President, State Bar of Georgia
